Choose a professional PoE NVR recorder for a reliable wired IP CCTV system. An NVR Network Video Recorder records compatible IP security cameras over a network. Models with built-in PoE ports can also power compatible cameras through Ethernet, keeping the camera connection centrally managed.
Choose the right CCTV recorder for your system
Start with the number of cameras you need, then allow capacity for future expansion. Our range includes 8-channel, 16-channel and 32-channel NVRs with 4K or up to 12MP recording support. Depending on the model, features can include H.265+ compression, AI human and vehicle detection, 4K HDMI output, remote viewing and multiple hard-drive bays.

Compare ANNKE 8-channel and 16-channel PoE NVRs
Choose the recorder around your current camera count and planned expansion. An 8-channel model supports up to eight compatible camera channels; a 16-channel model supports up to sixteen. Maximum recording resolution is a capability, not a promise that every camera or smart feature is compatible.
| Option | Camera capacity | What you are buying |
|---|---|---|
| ANNKE N98PBK 8-channel PoE NVR | Up to 8 compatible cameras | Recorder; choose cameras and storage separately. |
| ANNKE N96PBH / NRP1612 16-channel PoE NVR | Up to 16 compatible cameras | Recorder; check the selected HDD configuration. |
| 4-camera 4K PoE CCTV kit | 8-channel recorder with 4 cameras supplied | N98PBK, 4 × I91DS cameras and 4TB SkyHawk HDD. |
| 13-camera 4K PoE CCTV kit | 16-channel recorder with 13 cameras supplied | N96PBH, 13 × I91DS cameras and 6TB SkyHawk HDD. |
| 8-camera 3K PoE CCTV kit | 8-channel recorder with 8 cameras supplied | N98PBK, 8 × I51ES cameras and 6TB SkyHawk HDD. |
Cables, additional cameras and installation are separate unless expressly listed in the bundle. Spare channels do not override recorder bandwidth, camera compatibility or the PoE power budget.

Channel count and PoE port count are not always the same
A 32-channel NVR does not necessarily have 32 built-in PoE ports. The channel count describes how many compatible camera channels the recorder can manage, while the physical PoE-port count describes how many cameras can connect directly to the recorder for power and network data. Additional compatible IP cameras can often be connected through a suitable PoE switch and the same network, subject to the recorder’s supported channels, bandwidth and protocol.
NVR with hard drive or recorder only?
An NVR needs suitable storage to retain recorded footage. Some recorder listings may include a hard drive while others are supplied without one, so check the individual product configuration before ordering. If storage is not included, choose a CCTV-rated drive sized for the camera count, resolution, bitrate, recording schedule and required retention period.
See our surveillance hard drives for local CCTV recording storage.
How much NVR storage do you need?
There is no single correct hard-drive size for every CCTV system. Continuous 24/7 recording uses more storage than motion-only recording, and higher camera count, bitrate, frame rate and resolution all increase storage demand. Efficient codecs such as H.265/H.265+ can reduce storage requirements where supported, but actual retention still depends on the recording configuration.
PoE NVR vs DVR
A PoE NVR is designed primarily for compatible IP/network cameras. A DVR is used with compatible analogue CCTV technologies over coaxial cabling. If you are upgrading an existing coaxial installation rather than installing new IP cameras, compare our DVR recorders and analogue CCTV cameras.
Before buying an NVR
- Camera compatibility: confirm supported resolution, protocol and camera features.
- Channels: choose enough camera channels for the current system and reasonable expansion.
- PoE capacity: check both the number of built-in PoE ports and the recorder’s PoE power budget.
- Network bandwidth: make sure the recorder can handle the combined camera streams.
- Storage: check drive-bay count, supported HDD capacity and whether a hard drive is included.
- Display: confirm HDMI/VGA output requirements and supported display resolution.
- Remote access: check the app/platform required for live view and playback.
Frequently asked questions
What does NVR stand for in CCTV?
NVR stands for Network Video Recorder. It receives and records video from compatible IP cameras over an Ethernet network.
Does a PoE NVR power the cameras?
If the NVR has built-in PoE ports, compatible cameras connected to those ports can normally receive power and data over the same Ethernet cable. Always check the recorder’s PoE specifications and power budget.
Can an NVR use cameras connected through a PoE switch?
Often yes, provided the cameras are reachable on the correct network and are compatible with the recorder. Channel, bandwidth and protocol limits still apply.
Can I view an NVR on my phone?
Many modern NVRs support remote live view and playback through a manufacturer app or platform when the recorder and network are configured correctly.

Plan camera coverage and future expansion
Do four cameras need a four-channel or eight-channel NVR?
Four cameras need at least four compatible recording channels. An eight-channel recorder can leave capacity for four more cameras, subject to its resolution, bandwidth and PoE power limits. Our four-camera 4K kit pairs four cameras with an eight-channel recorder.
Does an eight-camera kit leave spare channels on an eight-channel NVR?
No. Eight cameras use all eight recording channels. If you expect more cameras later, consider a compatible sixteen-channel recorder before buying. Compare the eight-camera 3K kit with our recorder options above.
