Connect an NVR to a TV with an AOC HDMI Cable
Quick answer: This directional HDMI 2.1 active optical cable connects the HDMI output of an NVR, DVR or AV source to a television, monitor or projector. Choose a 5 m, 15 m or 20 m length for the measured route. Connect SOURCE to the recorder and DISPLAY to the screen, then select an output resolution supported by both devices.
An AOC HDMI cable uses active electronics at its ends to convert the video signal for transmission over optical fibre. It provides a direct point-to-point display connection. It does not connect PoE cameras, carry a network connection or replace the camera's Ethernet cable.
Choose the Right Length
| Available length |
Example cable route |
Check before ordering |
| 5 m |
Recorder cabinet to a nearby TV or monitor |
Measure the actual route, including bends and access to both ports. |
| 15 m |
Recorder to a screen elsewhere in the room or a nearby room |
Allow gentle bends and enough spare length to connect without tension. |
| 20 m |
A longer routed connection to a remote display |
Check the connector will pass through the intended conduit and test the complete setup first. |
Measure along the planned cable route rather than the straight-line distance. Do not join extra leads or adaptors simply to reach the display without testing the resulting connection.
4K and 8K Compatibility: What Matters?
The cable is specified for HDMI 2.1 with up to 48Gbps bandwidth and 8K at 60Hz. The supplier's product information also specifies 4K at 144Hz. These are cable capabilities, not a promise that every connected recorder, graphics card or television can output those formats.
The usable resolution and refresh rate depend on the source output, display input and selected video settings. HDR, Dolby Vision and audio formats also require support throughout the connected system. If a particular high-refresh-rate format or audio-return function is essential, confirm compatibility with HawkVision Pro before ordering.
For CCTV: a 4K HDMI cable cannot upgrade a recorder that only outputs 1080p, and a 4K recorder cannot make an HD television display native 4K. Set the recorder to a resolution the screen accepts.
Installation and No-Signal Checklist
- Connect the end marked SOURCE to the recorder, PC or media source.
- Connect the end marked DISPLAY to the TV, monitor or projector.
- Select the correct HDMI input on the screen.
- Test the complete cable with the intended equipment before routing it through a wall or conduit.
- Route gently: avoid sharp bends, crushing and pulling on the connector bodies.
- If there is no picture, check direction and output resolution, then test the source and screen with a short known-good lead.
The armoured braided layer improves mechanical protection. It does not mean the cable can be crushed, bent sharply or used outdoors without a verified environmental rating.

AOC HDMI Cable: Frequently Asked Questions
What does AOC mean in an HDMI cable?
AOC means Active Optical Cable. Electronics in the cable ends convert signals for transmission over fibre. The cable must be fitted in the correct SOURCE-to-DISPLAY direction.
Can I connect my NVR to a TV with this cable?
Yes, when the NVR has a compatible HDMI output and the TV has a compatible HDMI input. Connect SOURCE to the NVR and DISPLAY to the TV. Match the recorder's output resolution to a format the TV supports.
Will this HDMI 2.1 cable work with a 4K NVR?
It can carry a supported 4K HDMI display signal from a compatible NVR to a compatible screen. The recorder's own HDMI output limits still apply; camera recording resolution and local monitor output are separate settings.
Which lengths can I buy?
This product is available in 5 m, 15 m and 20 m variants. Select the required length above and check its current price and availability before ordering.
Can I install an active optical HDMI cable backwards?
No. This cable is directional. If SOURCE is connected to the TV and DISPLAY to the recorder, the display may show no picture. Check the connector labels before concealed installation.
Why does my NVR still show no signal?
Check the HDMI input, connector direction and recorder output resolution first. A display that cannot accept the selected output may show no signal even when the cable and recorder are working. Test with a compatible screen before replacing equipment.
Does HDMI send power to PoE cameras?
No. This HDMI lead carries the recorder's local display connection. PoE cameras connect through suitable Ethernet cabling to a compatible NVR or PoE switch.
Is an armoured HDMI cable automatically suitable outdoors?
No. Mechanical armour is not proof of weatherproofing, UV resistance or an outdoor rating. Contact us about the intended route before using this product in exposed conditions.
Is fibre optic HDMI better than an HDMI extender over Cat6?
Choose according to the required resolution, route and distance. This AOC lead is a direct HDMI connection. An HDMI-over-Cat6 extender is a separate transmitter and receiver system; its published resolution and distance limits must match the installation.
