Shop Seagate SkyHawk surveillance hard drives for compatible CCTV, NVR and DVR recorders. These purpose-built drives support continuous video-recording workloads. Choose a capacity that fits your recorder and the amount of footage you need to retain.

Compare 2TB, 4TB and 6TB CCTV storage

Compare the SkyHawk 2TB ST2000VX017, SkyHawk 4TB ST4000VX016 and SkyHawk 6TB ST6000VX008. Check the exact model page for its form factor, SATA connection and recording technology. Check your recorder's maximum drive capacity and compatibility before ordering. A larger drive increases storage capacity, not the recorder's camera-channel count.

How many days will a CCTV hard drive record?

Retention depends on the total camera bitrate, camera count, recording schedule and usable drive space. There is no fixed number of days for every 4TB or 6TB system. Our CCTV hard-drive selection guide explains what to check.

Building a system? Browse PoE NVR recorders or analogue DVR recorders. Check current stock, delivery and product-specific warranty information on the individual listing.

Estimate storage from camera bitrate

For continuous recording, one camera at an average 1 Mbps uses approximately 10.8 GB per day before overhead. Multiply average bitrate in Mbps × camera count × 10.8 to estimate daily GB, then multiply by your target number of days.

Example: four cameras averaging 4 Mbps each use about 172.8 GB per day. Fourteen days would require approximately 2.42 TB before formatting, audio, overhead and a practical reserve. This is a planning example, not a promised retention period for any kit; variable bitrate and motion recording change the result.

Does a larger hard drive increase camera capacity?

No. A larger supported hard drive provides more storage. The recorder's channel count, bandwidth and decoding limits still determine camera capacity.

Can any SATA hard drive be used in an NVR?

Check the exact recorder's supported drive type, capacity per bay and compatibility guidance. Select a surveillance drive appropriate to continuous video workloads and the expected workload rather than choosing by capacity alone.
