ANNKE NVR No Signal on TV? How to Fix an HDMI Resolution Mismatch

• HawkVision Pro

A CCTV recorder can be working perfectly while the connected TV shows No Signal or a blank screen. We recently encountered exactly this situation during a real installation: the NVR and cameras were operating, but an older television would not display the recorder output.

The fix was simple once the cause was identified: the NVR HDMI output resolution was higher than the television could support.

Why an ANNKE NVR can show no picture on an older TV

An NVR can output video at Full HD, 2K or 4K depending on the model and settings. If the recorder is configured to output a resolution that the connected display cannot accept, the TV may show no image even though the NVR itself is running normally.

This is a display compatibility issue, not necessarily a camera, hard-drive or network fault.

The practical fix that worked for us

On our installation, we temporarily accessed the NVR using a compatible display and reduced the local display output to 1280 × 720 (720p). The older TV then displayed the NVR normally and the problem did not return.

Important: 720p is a useful troubleshooting fallback, not the ideal setting for every installation. Once you have an image, select the highest output resolution that both the NVR and your monitor or television reliably support.

Quick troubleshooting checklist

  1. Confirm the TV is set to the correct HDMI input.
  2. Test a different HDMI cable and, if available, another HDMI port.
  3. Connect the NVR temporarily to a monitor or TV known to support the recorder's current output resolution.
  4. Open the NVR display/output settings and lower the HDMI resolution.
  5. Reconnect the original TV and test again.
  6. If the picture returns, increase the resolution only as far as the display supports reliably.

Does lowering the HDMI output reduce the camera recording quality?

Not necessarily. The local monitor output and the camera recording stream are different settings. A system can continue recording high-resolution camera footage while the local HDMI display is set to a lower resolution for compatibility.

For example, having 4K or 8MP cameras does not make an older HD television capable of displaying a 4K image. To see the full local 4K detail, the NVR output, HDMI connection and display all need to support the required resolution.

When should you suspect something else?

If lowering the output resolution does not restore the picture, check the HDMI cable, display input, NVR video output and power first. If the recorder is reachable through its app or network interface but still has no local picture, that is another useful clue that the issue may be limited to the local display path.
