How to Set Up the ANNKE Vision App for NVR & DVR Remote Viewing
When buying a CCTV system, one of the most common questions customers ask is simple:
“Do I need to pay every month to view my cameras on my phone?”
For ANNKE NVR and DVR systems, the good news is that the standard ANNKE Vision app features do not require a monthly or yearly subscription. You can use the app to view live video, play back recordings, receive motion alerts and manage your CCTV system remotely, as long as your recorder is compatible and correctly connected to the internet.
This guide explains how the ANNKE Vision app works, how to connect your NVR or DVR to your phone, and how to share access with a second user such as a family member, business partner or member of staff.
What Is the ANNKE Vision App?
ANNKE Vision is the mobile app used to connect compatible ANNKE CCTV systems to your smartphone or tablet. It allows you to view your cameras remotely, check live footage, play back recordings and receive notifications when motion events are detected.
The app is commonly used with ANNKE NVRs, DVRs and compatible IP cameras that support Cloud P2P remote access. In simple terms, P2P allows the recorder to connect securely to the app without the customer needing complicated network settings in most normal installations.
For most home and small business users, this means you can check your CCTV system from your mobile phone without paying a standard subscription fee for remote viewing.
Is the ANNKE Vision App Free to Use?
Yes, the standard ANNKE Vision app functions for remote viewing are free to use.
That means you do not need to pay a monthly or yearly subscription just to view your cameras, check live video, play back recordings from your NVR or DVR, or manage the system through the app.
There may be optional services or extra cloud-based features depending on the product, app version or region, but standard remote access through ANNKE Vision does not require a regular subscription in the way many consumer WiFi camera brands do.
This is one of the reasons many customers choose a proper NVR or DVR CCTV system instead of relying only on subscription-based wireless cameras.
What You Need Before You Start
Before setting up ANNKE Vision on your phone, make sure you have the following:
-
An ANNKE NVR or DVR connected to power
-
CCTV cameras connected to the recorder
-
A working hard drive installed if you want recording and playback
-
A monitor connected to the recorder by HDMI or VGA
-
A USB mouse connected to the recorder
-
An internet connection
-
A network cable from the recorder to your router
-
The ANNKE Vision app installed on your phone
-
Access to the recorder’s admin password
For remote viewing, the recorder must be connected to your internet router. If the recorder is not connected to the network, you may still be able to view cameras locally on the monitor, but you will not be able to view them remotely on your phone.
Step 1: Connect the NVR or DVR to Your Router
First, connect your ANNKE recorder to your internet router using an Ethernet network cable.
Most NVRs and DVRs have a LAN port at the back. Connect one end of the network cable to the LAN port on the recorder and the other end to your router.
For an NVR system, your PoE cameras may connect directly to the PoE ports on the recorder or to a PoE switch, depending on the system design. For a DVR system, the analogue cameras normally connect using coaxial cable, while the recorder itself still needs to connect to the router for mobile viewing.
Step 2: Activate the Recorder
If this is the first time using the recorder, you may need to activate it by creating an admin password.
Choose a strong password that you can remember. Avoid simple passwords such as 123456, password, admin123 or your business name. A strong password helps protect your CCTV system from unauthorised access.
During setup, the recorder may also ask for a security email or verification code. Keep these details safe, because they may be needed later for password recovery or mobile app connection.
Step 3: Check Network Settings
On the recorder menu, go to the network settings section and make sure the recorder has an internet connection.
In many cases, the easiest option is to enable DHCP. This allows the router to automatically give the recorder an IP address.
A typical route on the recorder menu may look like this:
Menu → Configuration → Network
Make sure the recorder is connected to the router and that the network status is working correctly. If the recorder cannot access the internet, the app connection may fail.
Step 4: Enable ANNKE Vision or Platform Access
Next, enable ANNKE Vision or Platform Access on the recorder.
Depending on the recorder model and software version, the menu may be shown as:
Menu → Configuration → Network → Platform Access
or a similar ANNKE Vision / P2P section.
Enable the service and check the connection status. Ideally, the status should show as Online. If it shows Offline, check the network cable, router connection, DHCP settings and DNS settings.
Some systems may also ask you to create or confirm a verification code. This code is important because the app may ask for it when you add the recorder.
Step 5: Download the ANNKE Vision App
Download the ANNKE Vision app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
After installation, open the app and create an account using your email address or mobile number. If you already have an ANNKE Vision account, simply log in.
Make sure you select the correct country or region during registration, and keep your login details safe.
Step 6: Add the NVR or DVR to the App
Once the app is open and you are logged in, tap Add Device.
The easiest method is usually to scan the QR code shown on the recorder’s Platform Access or ANNKE Vision screen.
On the recorder, go to the ANNKE Vision / Platform Access page and look for the QR code. Then, using the app, scan the QR code and follow the instructions on the phone.
If the app asks for a verification code or encryption password, enter the code shown or created on the recorder.
After the device is added successfully, it should appear in your ANNKE Vision device list.
Step 7: View Live Cameras on Your Phone
After adding the recorder, tap the device in the ANNKE Vision app to open live view.
You should now be able to see your cameras from your phone. Depending on your internet speed, mobile signal and recorder settings, the video may load in standard or high definition.
If the live view does not load, check the following:
-
The recorder is powered on
-
The recorder is connected to the router
-
ANNKE Vision / P2P status is Online
-
Your phone has internet access
-
The correct verification code was entered
-
The cameras are correctly connected to the recorder
Step 8: Playback Recordings from the App
The ANNKE Vision app can also be used to play back recorded footage from your NVR or DVR.
To use playback, the recorder must have a working hard drive installed and recording must be enabled. If there is no hard drive, or if the hard drive has not been formatted, you may be able to view live video but not recorded footage.
Inside the app, open the device, choose playback, select the camera and choose the date and time you want to check.
This is useful for reviewing deliveries, visitors, vehicles, shop activity, warehouse movement or any security event that has been recorded.
Step 9: Set Motion Notifications
Many ANNKE systems support motion alerts or smart detection notifications. Depending on your camera and recorder model, this may include basic motion detection, human detection, vehicle detection or other smart event alerts.
You can enable push notifications in the app and adjust the motion settings on the recorder.
For best results, avoid setting motion sensitivity too high. If sensitivity is too strong, you may receive too many alerts from rain, insects, shadows, headlights or moving trees. A well-adjusted system gives more useful notifications and fewer false alarms.
Step 10: Share Access with a Second User
If you want another person to view the CCTV system on their phone, there are usually two practical options.
The first option is to log in to the same ANNKE Vision account on the second phone. This is simple, but it means both users have the same account access.
The better option for many homes and businesses is device sharing. With sharing, the main account keeps control of the recorder and sends access to another ANNKE Vision account.
To share the device, the second person should first create their own ANNKE Vision account. Then, from the main account, use the sharing option inside the ANNKE Vision app, add the recipient’s email address, phone number or account QR code, select the device or camera channels to share, and choose the permissions.
For example, you may allow a family member to view live video and playback, or allow a member of staff to view only selected cameras.
The second user will receive a sharing message in the app and must accept it before the device appears in their account.
Can a Device Be Added to More Than One Main Account?
For security reasons, an ANNKE recorder is normally linked to one main app account at a time. This helps prevent unauthorised people from adding the same recorder to their own account.
If another person needs access, use the sharing feature instead of trying to add the same device as a new main device on multiple accounts.
If the app says the device has already been added to another account, it may need to be unbound from the previous account before it can be added again.
Why Choose an NVR or DVR Instead of Subscription WiFi Cameras?
Many modern WiFi cameras depend heavily on cloud storage subscriptions. Some may limit recording history, advanced alerts or playback features unless a monthly plan is paid.
A proper ANNKE NVR or DVR system is different. The footage is normally stored locally on the hard drive inside the recorder. This means you can record continuously or by motion, depending on your settings, without relying only on paid cloud storage.
For homes, shops, offices and warehouses, this can be a more practical long-term solution. You buy the system, install a suitable surveillance hard drive, connect it to the app, and manage your cameras without needing a monthly subscription for standard viewing.
Useful Tips for a Reliable Setup
For the best experience with ANNKE Vision, keep these tips in mind:
Use a stable broadband connection where possible.
Connect the recorder to the router using a proper Ethernet cable.
Use a surveillance-grade hard drive for reliable recording.
Keep your recorder password strong and private.
Do not share your main account password unless you trust the person fully.
Use device sharing for family members or staff.
Keep your app and recorder firmware updated where appropriate.
Place the recorder in a safe and well-ventilated location.
Check playback after installation to confirm recording is working.
Test remote viewing before you rely on the system.
Common Problems and Quick Fixes
If the app does not connect, first check whether the recorder’s P2P or ANNKE Vision status is Online.
If it is Offline, check the router cable and network settings.
If live view works but playback does not, check whether a hard drive is installed, formatted and recording properly.
If the second user cannot see the device, make sure they have accepted the sharing invitation in their own ANNKE Vision account.
If you receive too many alerts, adjust the motion detection area and sensitivity.
If the app asks for a verification code, check the ANNKE Vision or Platform Access page on the recorder.
